Fibre Content has been a UK registered company since 2012, however the DNA can be traced back to 1988 when Julian Smith joined High Modulus in Warkworth at the birth of the NZ composites industry. KZ7, the world's first GRP 12m yacht had just come close to winning the Americas Cup in Perth, thanks to the company's innovative wet-preg technology, and every day we were trying new engineering-lead ideas.
In 1995 Phil Lawrence joined High Modulus Europe which Julian founded to promote independent composite engineering outside Australasia and the team grew when Andre Moltschaniwskji and Gary Scott Jenner joined us from NZ. High Modulus no longer exists and all of its assets are now the property of Gurit. We do not retain any data relating to High Modulus projects and will always refer you to Gurit if you require support for one of them. However the projects we have worked on are part of our personal histories and the ethos of sound engineering and value-for-money structures lives on. |
Early Days in NZIn 1988 High Modulus was a fledgling company with a mission to bring composites to the NZ marine industry via engineering. The design team was 4 engineers, a draftsman and a shared computer!

Established in EuropeIn 1994 Julian Smith opened an office in Hamble trading as High Modulus Europe. Operating independently and with no material sales the team grew to 10 engineers and delivered >300 projects.

Recent TimesAfter covering the 2003 and 2007 Americas Cups, which required us to divide the team, we went through a number of organisation changes before returning to the original ethos of bringing composites to a wider audience and becoming Fibre Content
